Chieftains want to develop some momentum heading into off-season

There are no playoff or league championship implications surrounding Bellefontaine’s season finale against visiting Stebbins on Friday, but that does not make the game any less important in Chieftain camp.

“This is an important week for our program,” said first-year BHS coach Toby Smith. “We are coming off a 1-8 season and we’ve seen improvement. We want to continue that this week.

“We also want to send our seniors off on a good note, get back to .500 and go into the off-season with a little momentum.”

Bellefontaine (4-5 overall, 1-3 in the Central Buckeye Conference Kenton Trail division) is coming off its most complete performance of the season. The Chiefs led Tecumseh 7-0 at halftime and went on to take a 19-7 victory for their first win over the Arrows since 2007.

“I thought we played our best football game of the season last week,” said Smith. “We need to build on that effort and use that game as a stepping stone for the future.”
