Friday’s game will have major impact on the league’s championship race
It’s hard to remember a time when West Liberty-Salem and Triad’s football teams didn’t play a crucial role in the outcome of the Ohio Heritage Conference championship.
That is the case once again when Triad travels to WL-Salem on Friday to likely determine this season’s league championship at 7 p.m.
The Cardinals, who are ranked fifth in the Division VII state poll, have fashioned a perfect 8-0 record and a 5-0 mark in the OHC. A win over the Tigers (7-1, 4-1) on Friday would likely ensure Triad an outright league championship as the Cardinals face a winless Springfield Catholic Central team in the regular-season finale.
A win for the Tigers would result in a jumbled group at the top of the standings. WL-Salem would move into a first-place tie along with the Cardinals and Mechanicsburg if it wins Friday against Northeastern.
Triad has never had an undefeated regular season. The top three goals for the Cardinals this season were to win the OHC championship outright, finish the regular season 10-0 and qualify for the state playoffs.
