Tigers’ Sims grabs OHC player of the year honor

West Liberty-Salem’s Nick Sims edged teammate Jake Rutan for the Ohio Heritage Conference golfer of the year award this fall.









Sims averaged 36.6 in league play, while Rutan averaged 36.9.

The Tigers won both the OHC regular-season and tournament titles. They play in the state tournament this weekend in Columbus.

Joining Sims and Rutan on the all-OHC first team were teammates Ethan McBean and Kannon Stillings, Springfield Catholic Central’s Sam Juergens and Greeneview’s Bryan Northup.

Triad’s Seth Donohoe earned a spot on the second team. Other second-team selections included Northeastern’s Greg Otto and Josh Lenk and SCC’s Kyle Foley, Sean Jacobs and Ian Collins.

WL-Salem’s Casey Gay and Dillon Callicoat grabbed spots on the honorable mention list. Rounding out that group were SCC’s Quinnton Howard, Greeneview’s Griffin Bailey and Wade Hovan, Southeastern’s Gavin Green, Mechanicsburg’s Mack Cushman and Northeastern’s Brock Hodson.
