When the Boston Red Sox cast all the blame for a bad 2011 season on then manager Terry Francona, I knew it would only be a matter of time before Francona resurfaced in the majors.
Francona did a tremendous job in Boston, winning two World Series titles before being pushed out after a turmoil-filled final season two years ago.
Following a year doing television work, Francona returned to the dugout when the Indians were smart to pluck him up.
Francona has not disappointed Tribe fans, putting the team on the verge of a playoff berth in his initial season.
The Cleveland players have taken to Francona’s style, playing loose but with grit as well. While they are still lacking talent in some areas, they play with a never-say-die attitude that has been fun to watch.
Francona is proving that the 2011 season was a fluke. He is one of the best managers in baseball, and the long-suffering Indians are fortunate to have him.
