West Liberty-Salem’s boys golf team had its first test of the season Wednesday as it held on to edge host Springfield Catholic Central 153-155 in an Ohio Heritage Conference contest at Reid Park.

The Tigers improve to 3-0 in league play.

“I felt like the guys did a good job of handling the pressure,” said WL-Salem head coach Darrin Leichty. “Central gained a lot of momentum after the rain delay, but we hit some big putts to pull it out. We have to continue to hit more fairways going forward.”

Nick Sims and Jacob Rutan each fired 35s to lead WL-Salem. Ethan McBean carded a 38, Kannon Stillings had a 45 and Casey Gay and Dillon Callicoat each added 48s.

Catholic Central’s Foley was medalist with a 34.

WL-Salem travels to Northeastern today in another OHC matchup.
