Kylie Gilroy, an incoming sophomore at West Liberty-Salem High School, has recently been selected to compete in the Queen of Diamonds Showcase in South Carolina.
This is the seventh year for the Showcase, which is conducted at Winthrop University over Labor Day weekend.
This event attracts athletes from more than 30 states as well as two Canadian provinces. Over 1,500 applicants applied and only 264 athletes were selected.
Players must apply to the event and are selected based on criteria ranging from ability, potential, academics, coach’s requests and referrals. Players are assigned to teams that play three games in front of college scouts from all over the country.
Gilroy was a freshman varsity starter at WL-Salem last spring. She plays third base and outfield for her summer travel ball team.
