Bellefontaine summer swim team sparkles at league meet

The Bellefontaine Parks and Recreation summer swim team gave its best performance in nearly 25 years Saturday at the league’s championship meet in Tipp City.

Minster won the five-county meet comfortably with 618.5 points. Bellefontaine held off Tippecanoe 494-437 to earn runner-up honors. Versailles came in fourth with 415 points, Botkins was fifth with 196.5 points and Troy took sixth with 148 points.

Several swimmers for Bellefontaine also set new championship meet and team records at the event.

Amy Fulmer had a standout performance in the girls 11-12 age group. She set a new championship record and new team record in the 25 backstroke and also set a championship record and new team record in the 50 backstroke.

Also for the girls, Emily Fulmer set new team records in the 13-14 age group in the 50 freestyle and 50 backstroke, Shelbi Moore set a new team record in the 13-14 age group in the 50 butterfly, Sarah Mally set a new team record in the 15-18 age group in the 50 butterfly and Jessica Miller set new team records in the 15-18 age group in the 50 freestyle and 50 breaststroke.

The girls relays saw the 13-14 medley relay of Molly Schulz, Megan Barthauer, Moore and Emily Fulmer set a new team record, while the 15-18 freestyle relay of Mally, Shelby Phillips, Camille Watson and Miller set a new team record.
