The players on the Bellefontaine Easton Water Acme baseball team have shown they enjoy a challenge. They have another big one awaiting Saturday.
Fresh off a thrilling 4-3 extra-inning win over Springfield in Monday’s district championship game, Bellefontaine is preparing to face a powerful Defiance program Saturday night in the first round of state tournament action in Coldwater.
Bellefontaine (21-3) and Defiance (18-6) meet at 7:30 p.m. at Memorial Park.
“I know our guys will be looking forward to this opportunity,” said Bellefontaine head coach Don Hensley after Monday’s win. “They realize this is summer baseball and it is not the same thing as the spring season, but you only have so many chances in your athletic career to be a state champion. Any time you get this kind of opportunity, you want to take advantage of it.”
