The Bellefontaine Parks and Recreation track and field team competed at the Hershey Track and Field Games Saturday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus.

Bellefontaine captured two first-place finishes at the state meet. Bailey Morales won the girls 13-14 age group in the softball throw with a toss of 133-1.

The other win came from the girls 9-10 age group in the 100 relay. That relay consisted of Gabby Stolly, Erica Warne, Julia Easton and Kayla Plummer (1:10.44).

Saturday’s successful meet capped an outstanding summer season for the local squad, which is headed by Janet Dunn and Noelle Dunn.

“This season has been quite rewarding as many of the participants ended their season with personal bests, and it was exciting to see the camaraderie that developed among the kids,” said the coaches. “We experimented with some different ideas to make the program more efficient, and as coaches, we look forward to further implementing these next year.

“We had a larger group this year than ever before, and it was a challenge that we readily accepted. We’re hoping to see a multitude of this year’s participants return to run again next year as well as some new faces.”
