Hardin Northern drops varsity football

DOLA — Once a small school football power, Hardin Northern will not have a varsity football team this fall.

According to a story in the Kenton Times, the school has decided not to have a squad for the upcoming season.

“We met with the parents (Monday night) and told them we will not have a varsity football team this fall,” Hardin Northern Superintendent Doug Roberts said. “There were only 12 kids committed to playing and that’s just not enough.”

Roberts also said the school hopes to play a junior varsity schedule this fall with the plan to get back to the varsity level in 2014.

The Polar Bears are coming off an 0-10 season. They are 6-44 over the last five years.

Hardin Northern won the Division VI state championship in 2004 and finished as the Division VI state runner-up in 2002.
