Sarah Bechtel was a track and field standout during her high school days at Bellefontaine. She has continued her high level of success at the college level.
Bechtel, now a junior at Ohio Wesleyan University, captured Division III All-American honors last week by placing seventh in the pole vault at the NCAA national outdoor meet in Wisconsin.
The former Chieftain tied for seventh, clearing 12-1 1/2 to tie the school record she set earlier this spring.
She came into the meet seeded 17th, but stepped up on the big stage of the national meet to earn her All-American award.
Joining Bechtel as All-Americans were her OWU teammates Hannah Benzing and Emily Amburgey. Benzing finished sixth in the discus and Amburgey was eighth in the high jump.
