Jake Essig of Monroe, a cousin of Logan County resident Aubrey Snapp, and three of his college soccer friends are dribbling soccer balls on a 250-mile trip to raise money for the homeless in Toledo.

Essig, a junior at Huntington University in Indiana, is being joined by Huntington teammate Isaac Beal, University of Cincinnati student Derek Garde and Asbury University student Nick Streibick. The four friends began their trip earlier this week in Monroe, which is just north of Cincinnati, and plan to dribble soccer balls all the way to Toledo.

They are traveling 15 miles per day and anticipate that their trip will end June 15.

“The four of us decided that we wanted to go on a trip that would stretch us as people and strengthen our friendship,” Essig said. “As we thought about what kind of trip that would look like, we decided that we want to make an impact in a community.”
