Tigers overcome miscues to bounce Blazers

It was not the typical brand of baseball it is used to playing, but West Liberty-Salem survived a scare from National Trail on Wednesday to emerge with a 13-8 sectional tournament win.

The third-seeded Tigers, who pride themselves on their defense, committed four errors in the first two innings and fell behind 6-3.

A seven-run sixth inning helped WL-Salem overcome its early struggles. The Tigers advance to the Division III sectional final next Wednesday against second-seeded Versailles at Tippecanoe Middle School.

“We played tight,” said WL-Salem head coach Toby Smith. “For whatever reason, we came out and played probably our worst defensive game of the season.”
