Jenkins’ home run in seventh inning sends Cardinals past Marysville 2-0

Macie Jenkins hit a game-winning home run to send Triad past host Marysville for a 2-0 win on Monday in non-league action.

The Cardinals are now 8-16 on the season and host Troy Christian today for a first-round sectional tournament game.

The teams were scoreless through six innings. Jenkins hit a two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to give the Cardinals all they needed for the victory.

Hannah Watkins earned the win in the pitching circle.

Arcadia tops Gophers

Arcadia’s softball team handled host Ridgemont 14-4 in six innings on Monday in a non-league matchup.

The Redskins led 7-2 after four innings. They added five more runs in the top of the fifth inning for a 12-2 advantage. The Gophers tacked on a run in the bottom of the fifth frame for a 12-3 score, but Arcadia plated two more runs in the top of the sixth inning for a 14-3 score.

Ridgemont could only add one more run to its total and gave up the run-rule win.

Bailey Wagner led the Gophers with a home run and an RBI, while Shelby Christian recorded a double.
