Sara Emerich, a former all-state softball pitcher at Riverside, recently concluded her career at West Liberty University.
WLU is an NCAA Division II university in West Virginia. Emerich was honored along with the team’s two other seniors on senior day April 20.
The Hilltoppers swept a doubleheader from Davis and Elkins and split a doubleheader with West Virginia Wesleyan during the weekend. Emerich pitched 18 2/3 innings, giving up only four earned runs and earning two wins. She also had three hits, including a double.
Emerich concluded her career April 27 as WLU swept a doubleheader from Bluefield State. In her final game in the circle for the Hilltoppers, she pitched a no-hitter with six strikeouts in a 5-0 win. Only one runner reached base in the game (on an error), but was thrown out on a steal attempt.
In her final season for the Hilltoppers, Emerich pitched 156 innings and had a 3.59 earned run average. She also led the team with a .979 fielding percentage.
