Will Nichols has made winning baseball games an annual occurrence at Triad. The longtime head coach reached an impressive career milestone Saturday.
Nichols, who has led the Cardinals’ baseball team for 16 seasons, entered the 300-win club as the Cardinals beat host London 3-1 in 10 innings in non-league action.
Triad, which has a state-runner up banner under Nichols, is now 17-3 this season.
Nichols is currently 300-139 in his career.
“I haven’t really thought of (Saturday’s win) as a milestone,” said Nichols. “Our focus as a team is still winning the league this year. It doesn’t even seem possible that I have been coaching that long to achieve 300 wins.”
Nichols credits stability with his staff and a large crop of talented players as the reasons for his success with the Cardinals.
“Our coaching staff has been together for over 10 years and know what is expected of each other,” he said. “We have been fortunate to have a steady line of talented players through the years.”
London made Nichols and the Cardinals work hard for the win Saturday.
