Chieftains grind out 4-0 win over Cougars in CBC action

Bellefontaine made the most of its five hits Friday and held on for a 4-0 win over host Kenton Ridge in a Central Buckeye Conference matchup.

The Chieftains move their record to 10-4 overall and 5-4 in the CBC Kenton Trail division, while the Cougars drop to 6-8, 1-7.

Both teams struggled to score early on, but Bellefontaine grabbed some momentum in the top of the fourth inning and drove in four runs to take a 4-0 lead.

The Chieftain defense stayed strong and held off the Cougars the rest of the game.

Nick Burton led the BHS offense going 2-3 with an RBI, while Drake Roebuck and Jordan Baughman each had an RBI.

Brandon Wilson earned the win on the mound with four strikeouts.

Bellefontaine hosts Hamilton Badin today in a non-league game.

WL-Salem zaps Cedarville

West Liberty-Salem rolled to a 10-0 win over host Cedarville on Friday in Ohio Heritage Conference action.

The Tigers improve their mark to 13-5 overall and 7-3 in the OHC.

WL-Salem built a 7-0 lead after the fifth inning and added three more runs in the top of the seventh inning to seal the victory. The Tigers totaled 13 hits for the game.

Offensively, Spencer Whitcraft went 2-3 with a double and two RBI, David Branham went 2-3 with four RBI, Kyle Crawford went 2-3 with an RBI, Jake Rutan went 2-4 with two RBI, Max Bailey went 2-5 and Matt Ulmer had an RBI.

Crawford earned the win on the mound with five strikeouts.

WL-Salem travels to Benjamin Logan today for a local non-league doubleheader.

Triad grounds Jets

Triad’s baseball team dropped host Northeastern 7-0 on Friday in an Ohio Heritage Conference contest.

The Cardinals are now 16-3 overall and 8-1 in the OHC.

Triad led 1-0 until the sixth inning when the Cardinals caught fire and scored six runs. That gave them a 5-0 advantage. The Cards added two more runs in the top of the seventh to round out the win.

Doug Lowe gave up four hits and picked up the win on the mound with 12 strikeouts.

Offensively, Trent McIntyre had a triple, Colton Young had a double, Tre McIntyre had a double, Jacob Watkins and Ryan Davis both went 2-3, Brandon Edwards went 2-4 and Marshall O’Brien went 3-4 with two RBI.

Triad travels to London today for a non-league game.
