The Chieftains are now 7-8 overall and 4-5 in the CBC Kenton Trail division. The Warriors fall to 12-4 and suffer their first league loss at 6-1 in the CBC Mad River division.
Northwestern led 4-2 after the fourth inning, but Bellefontaine battled back to score five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 7-4 lead.
“It took us a while to get the timing of their pitcher down,” said BHS head coach Katie Buffkin. “In the fifth inning we finally timed her up and were able to score five runs in that inning.”
The Chieftains scored two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to build a 9-4 advantage. The Warriors drove in two runs in the top of the seventh inning, but their rally fell short and could not get any closer.
Offensively for BHS, Cat Faulder went 4-4, Jazmyn Haley went 2-4 with a home run and Carley Strzalka added a double.
Sidney Dew picked up the win in the pitching circle and went 2-3.
Bellefontaine travels to Kenton Ridge today for a CBC makeup game.
