West Liberty-Salem’s boys and girls track and field teams won another Ohio Heritage Conference quad meet Monday at Southeastern.
The Tiger girls scored 107.5 points to roll to a first-place finish, Greeneview was second with 88.5 points, Cedarville came in third with 40 points and the host Trojans were fourth with 26 points.
In an equally impressive performance, the Tiger boys won with 88.5 points. The Indians took the runner-up spot with 69.5 points and the Rams edged the Trojans 42-40 for third.
“The guys performed very well tonight,” said WL-Salem boys head coach Bart Zirkle. “We are getting to that point of the season when we have to start hitting on all cylinders. It was a great all-around effort from the entire team.”
All four of the WL-Salem girls relay teams came away with first-place finishes. That included the 400 relay of Abigail Rabenstein, Michaela Rausch, Megan Etgen and Morgan Freyhof, the 800 relay of Darby Thomas, Savanna Shipp, Rausch and Freyhof (1:58.3), the 1,600 relay of Rabenstein, Thomas, Jasmine Smith and Meghan Vogel (4:22.6) and the 3,200 relay of Smith, Vogel, Shawnda Henault and Alyssa Strickland (10:04.2).
Rabenstein and Freyhof each won two individual events. Rabenstein took first in the 100 hurdles (16.8) and the 300 hurdles (49.8), while Freyhof won the 100 (12.8) and the 200 (27.4).
Other wins came from Strickland in the 1,600 (5:46.6), Vogel in the 800 (2:28.1), Henault in the 3,200 (12:12.8) and Maddie Gantz in the shot put (32-9).
Finishing in second were Smith in the 800 (2:36.4), Etgen in the long jump (14-0 3/4) and Lauren Godwin in the shot put (30-1) and the discus (94-1).
WL-Salem’s boys saw wins from Conner Karg in the 400 (52.4), Aaron Scott in the 800 (2:16), Kelvin Shank in the 200 (23.3), Alex Adams in the 3,200 (10:38), Taylor Cordell in the 110 hurdles (14.8), Alex Gardner in the shot put (44-0), the 400 relay of Cordell, Shank, Jacob Ortman and Ross Hickenbottom (44.9) and the 1,600 relay of Karg, Cordell, Shank and Hickenbottom (3:35.0).
Runner-up efforts came from Ortman in the 100 (11.5), Scott in the 1,600 (4:53.1), Gardner in the discus (127-4), Trevor Anderson in the long jump (17-7) and the 3,200 relay of Alex Adams, Joey Adams, Scott and Ross Kelley (9:02).
WL-Salem is back in action Saturday at the Milton-Union Invitational.
Laker boys win quad meet
Indian Lake’s boys track and field team won a quad meet at Urbana on Monday against Graham, Emmanuel Christian and the host Hillclimbers.
The Lakers won with 84 points, Urbana was second with 62 points, Graham was third with 56 points and Emmanuel Christian was fourth with 54 points.
The Hillclimbers won the girls meet with 91 points, the Lakers were second with 82 points, the Falcons were third with 54 points and the Eagles were fourth with 28 points.
