Chieftains suffer first loss

Bellefontaine fell behind early and could not recover as host Springfield Shawnee handed the Chiefs their first loss Wednesday in a 4-2 victory in Central Buckeye Conference Kenton Trail division action.

The loss drops the Chieftains to 8-1 overall and 4-1 in the CBC Kenton Trail division. The Braves are now 6-4, 3-1.

Shawnee drove in all four of its runs in the bottom of the third inning.

Bellefontaine managed to score two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, but could not get any closer as the Braves held on for the win.

Offensively for the Chiefs, Brandon Wilson went 3-3 with an RBI, Jarrod Houchin had a double and an RBI and Trent Nicholl added a double.

Bellefontaine travels to Greenon today.

Tigers zap Irish in OHC contest

West Liberty-Salem’s baseball team picked up a 7-4 win over visiting Springfield Catholic Central on Wednesday in Ohio Heritage Conference play.

The Tigers improve to 9-2 overall.

WL-Salem held a 6-4 lead after the third inning and held the Irish scoreless the rest of the way. The Tigers tacked on one more run in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Offensively for the Tigers, Trent Thomas went 2-4 with a double.

Cole Wilson earned the win on the mound and also went 2-3 at the plate.

WL-Salem hosts Graham on Saturday in a doubleheader.
