Riverside girls fare well at state powerlifting meet

Riverside’s girls powerlifting team took first place in the bench press and deadlift competition Saturday at the NASA Ohio State Championship meet.

There were many individual highlights for the Pirates.



Ashtyn Defibaugh placed first in the 114-pound class, just missing the state record by four pounds. Allie Dickenson was first in the 132-pound class, breaking a state record in the process.

Ashton Woodell was first at 148 pounds with a personal best in the deadlift and Kayla Smith was first in the 165-pound class and now holds the teen record for her class.

Cheritha Schaffer was first in the 148-pound junior division, breaking a state record with a 315-pound deadlift. Dana Bell was first in the 165-pound junior division. She had a personal best with a 143.3-pound bench press and a 320-pound deadlift. She broke the state record in both divisions.

The Riverside powerlifting team will be competing May 11 at the WABDL National Bench Press and Deadlift Championships at the Grand Plaza Hotel in Toledo.
