In only third year of competing, husband and wife make splash at state bowling tournament
At the urging of some friends, husband and wife Jesse and Kalisha Hefner started bowling three years ago.
The Bellefontaine residents are the first to admit they were not very good.
“We finished dead last our first year in our mixed doubles league,” said Kalisha. “We were second to last the next year.”
However, they refused to get discouraged. Despite working separate shifts at their jobs, the couple dedicated themselves to the sport. Kalisha juggled her schedule to practice two or three times a week and Jesse found time to practice at least once a week.
Their efforts have paid off this season.
Kalisha had an average of just 98 as late as December, but showed steady improvement. She finished the season with a 127 average.
Jesse improved his average from the 120s in December to a final average of 148.
In their mixed doubles league, they finished in first place.
