It’s a new spring season, but Meghan Vogel continues to add to her impressive list of awards for her actions at last year’s state track and field meet.
The West Liberty-Salem senior has been honored with the Lou Holtz/Upper Ohio Valley Hall of Fame 2013 “Do Right” Award for her moving act of kindness during the 3,200-meter run at the Division III state meet in Columbus.
Arlington’s Arden McMath had fallen with 100 meters left in the race when Vogel came and picked her up and carried her across the finish line. The good deed brought fans at Jesse Owens Stadium to their feet with applause.
Vogel will receive her award at the Hall of Fame induction banquet Monday, June 24, at St. Florian Hall in Wintersville.
“It’s rare to find examples of folks who do the right thing for the simple sake of doing so,” said Hall of Fame Director Robin Webster.
“These are usually people to whom it wouldnever occur to do anything else. It isn’t always the easiest course of action, but it is often the most rewarding and always sets an example for others.”
Ohio State head football coach Urban Meyer is scheduled to be the event’s featured speaker.
