Wietholter struck out 10 without giving up a hit or walk. Riverside’s defense did its job by not committing an error.
“Christyn did an excellent job keeping them off-balance at the plate,” said Riverside head coach Andy Phelps.
Offensively, the Pirates put the game away early. They exploded for 10 runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Riverside finished the game with 17 hits.
Leading the offense for the Pirates were Taylor Nichols (3-4, double, home run, four RBI), Taylor Goings (3-4), Taylor Anderson (3-4), Chelsea Giles (3-4), Wietholter (2-3, two RBI) and Heather Comer (2-5, double).
Riverside is back in action today at home against Houston.
