Timely hitting helped West Liberty-Salem squeeze out a 3-0 win over visiting Riverside on Friday in a non-league battle between two local squads.
The Tigers move to 2-2 on the season, while the Pirates slip to 2-4.
After three scoreless innings, WL-Salem snagged a run in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Tigers followed up with two more runs in the bottom of the fifth for a 3-0 lead. The WL-Salem defense stepped up and helped the team hang on the rest of the way.

Offensively, Matt Ulmer went 2-3 with an RBI, Max Bailey went 2-3 and Cole Wilson and Spencer Whitcraft each added an RBI.
Kyle Crawford went the distance on the mound to pick up the win for the Tigers with six strikeouts and one walk. He also recorded a double on offense.
For Riverside, Jake Herron went 2-3.
Both squads are back in action today. WL-Salem hosts New Bremen in a non-league doubleheader, while Riverside hosts Fairlawn in a non-league doubleheader.

Lakers fall to Kenton
Kenton used a big sixth inning to push past visiting Indian Lake Friday and earn a 13-8 non-league win.
The Lakers drop to 2-1 on the season and the Wildcats improve to 3-2.
