Vito advances to finals of U.S. Open

Louie Vito advanced through a grueling qualifying round Thursday to reach the finals of the Burton U.S. Open in Vail, Colo.

Vito placed fourth with a score of 81.53 in a talented field of halfpipe riders in the semifinals. Scotty Lago had the top score with 85.15, Shaun White was next with 83.80 and Peetu Piiroinen was third with 81.75.

Vito was extremely precise in his tricks as he recorded three of the top five best trick scores in the semifinals.

The finals will be shown at 12:30 p.m. Saturday on the NBC Sports Network.
