While it would be a bit of a stretch to call it a rivalry at this point, West Liberty-Salem and Anna have developed an intense relationship on the basketball court.

The Tigers and Rockets have played each other in the regular season for several years, with the games often being physical, hard-fought battles.

The two squads played earlier this winter, with the Tigers pulling out a 53-50 win. They will meet for a rematch at 6 p.m. Friday at the University of Dayton in a Division III sectional final.

“I think it is fitting that these two teams are playing each other for a chance to get to districts,” said WL-Salem head coach Aaron Hollar. “We’ve had some good battles with them in the past. The team that is able to bring it for the full 32 minutes is the one that will come out on top.”
