Three area wrestlers qualified out of a tough Division III sectional tournament at Lehman Catholic on Saturday.
West Liberty-Salem’s Trevor Anderson (126) and Triad’s Andrew Zirkle (126) and Damian Boldman (152) all qualified to the district tournament Friday and Saturday at Kettering-Fairmont.
Covington won the sectional title with 228.5 points, Versailles edged Mechanicsburg 183-182 for second place and Troy Christian was fourth with 161.5 points.
Triad finished in 12th with 47 points, WL-Salem was 13th with 37.5 points and Riverside was 15th with 15 points.
Mechanicsburg had a strong tournament, qualifying 10 wrestlers to the district tournament. Advancing for the Indians were Drew Layne (106), Sam Rozmus (113), Nick Miller (120), Joe Ziegler (132), Austin Reese (138), Adam Tilley (145), Max Erwin (160), Dillon Hurst (170), Jim Gano (182) and Ely Stapleton (195).
As a freshman, Anderson has turned heads this season. He won the Lima Central Catholic Holiday Tournament where he beat a state qualifier and a state placer.
