Fourth quarter burst sends Gophers past Irish

Ridgemont’s boys basketball team used a big fourth quarter to down host Marion Catholic on Friday for a 53-46 Northwest Central Conference victory.

The Gophers improve their record to 7-10 overall and 4-3 in the NWCC, while the Irish drop to 2-16, 0-7.

Marion Catholic led 11-9 after the first quarter. Ridgemont edged the Irish 11-10 in the second quarter, but still trailed 21-20 at halftime.

The Irish stayed in front with a 14-11 effort in the third quarter, which gave them a 35-31 lead. Ridgemont found a spark in the fourth quarter and went on a 22-11 run to rally for the win.

Cody Seiler led the Gophers with 14 points, Tyler Tillman had 12 points and Tim Cowan added 11 points.

Ridgemont hosts Vanlue today in a non-league contest.
