OHC showdown awaits Friday for Tigers, Rams

Basketball hoops

A spot in the driver’s seat for the Ohio Heritage Conference boys basketball title is on the line Friday for West Liberty-Salem and host Greeneview.

The teams are tied for first place in the OHC standings at 10-1 and the winner of this game will have a one game-lead with two league games remaining.

WL-Salem (14-4) beat the Rams (15-3) 57-54 in the first meeting between the two squads this season.

“I really feel like we are hitting our stride,” said WL-Salem head coach Aaron Hollar. “This weekend will tell us a lot about our team and where we are. We have two tough road games against Greeneview and Anna. We will learn a lot about our team this weekend.”

The earlier matchup was a tightly contested battle, and Hollar anticipates the same will be the case in the rematch Friday.

“I expect it to be a game that is hard fought until the end,” said Hollar. “In these types of games, it normally comes down to the team that can make the plays down the stretch. You have to get key stops when you need them and make your free throws in crunch time.”
