HITTING THE MAT: Exciting team race in store for Raider Invite

The final local wrestling tournament of the season is Saturday at Benjamin Logan, and it could prove to be the most exciting of the three.

In my time working at the Examiner one constant has remained at the Raider Invitational. That is an exciting team race.

The tournament begins at 10 a.m. and has 11 teams in the field. They include the host Raiders, Bellefontaine, Brookhaven, Columbus East, Greenon, London, Northeastern, Northwestern, Springfield, Tecumseh and Triad.

Bellefontaine won the Raider Invite for the first time ever last season, two years ago Ben Logan won it on the final match of the night and three years ago the Raiders edged Tecumseh by a single point to win.

“It should be a very competitive tournament again,” said Ben Logan head coach Tony Grant. “There are several teams that could win it. It will depend on who gets hot and who gets a couple breaks. I expect us to go out and wrestle our best. If we do that we will do fine.”
