Vito earns spot in finals at Winter X Games

Louie Vito grabbed one of the eight qualifying spots Thursday night for Sunday’s snowboard superpipe finals at Winter X Games in Aspen, Colo.

Vito finished eighth in the qualifying rounds.

Each rider received two runs, with the top eight then moving on to the finals.

Vito recorded a score of 74.66 on his first run and that score held up after he had a 65.66 on his second run.

“Well not by best but not my worst,” Vito posted on his Twitter account late Thursday. “Made it through to Sunday’s finals.”

He also posted: “Bit of an off night but happy to stay on my feet and make it through to finals.”

Iouri Podladtchikov had the best qualifying score with an 87.33 and Shaun White was close behind with an 87.

Also earning berths in the finals were Scotty Lago (82.66), Markus Malin (81), Matt Ladley (80), Ayumu Hirano (78.66) and Christian Haller (76).

The finals will be televised live on ESPN at 9 p.m. Sunday.
