The Pirates have now won four of their last five games. They are 5-10 overall and move to 2-2 in the NWCC. The Rams were previously tied for the lead in the NWCC, but are now 9-3 overall and 3-1 in the league.

“What a big, big win for our team,” said RHS head coach Don Epps. “We are really happy and so proud of how our kids played tonight.”

Riverside took the lead in the second quarter and never trailed again. The Pirates held up down the stretch and were 29-of-38 from the free throw line.

“The whole key was us handling their press and then we came through on the free-throw line,” said Epps.

“The guys are buying into what we are doing and giving everything they have. They don’t complain and they just work hard. It was a great team effort, great senior leadership and our young guys are stepping up.”

USV held a 14-11 lead after the opening quarter, but Riverside rallied to outscore the Rams 17-11 in the second quarter. That burst gave the Pirates a 28-25 advantage at halftime.

Riverside pushed its lead to seven points (42-35) at the end of the third quarter.

The Pirates fought off the Rams in the fourth quarter to hang on for the win.

Dalton Bollinger powered the Pirates with a double-double, scoring 29 points and pulling down 13 rebounds. Kolt Shough tallied 13 points and Landon Kelsey had eight points.

In junior varsity action, USV won 48-28. Jesse Kean led the Pirates with 15 points.

Riverside travels to Fairlawn tonight for a non-league game.
