Lady Chiefs handle Braves for third straight win

Bellefontaine’s girls basketball team picked up its third straight victory Saturday by dropping visiting Springfield Shawnee 45-31 in Central Buckeye Conference Kenton Trail division action.

The Chiefs are now 9-4 overall and 4-2 in league play. Shawnee drops to 4-11, 0-7.

Jazmyn Haley and Whitney Rader turned in another stellar effort inside for the Lady Chiefs.

Haley, a junior forward, had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Rader, a senior center, contributed 12 points and seven rebounds.

Also for Bellefontaine, Kameren Haley had seven points, Brenda Johnson scored six points and Sajah Carter added five points.

Bellefontaine got off to a fast start as it led 15-3 after the opening eight minutes.

The Chiefs led 26-19 at halftime and then outscored the Braves 13-7 in the third quarter to open up a 13-point cushion (39-26).

Bellefontaine continued to stay in control in the fourth quarter to ice the win.

The Chiefs outrebounded the Braves 36-22.

In the junior varsity game, Bellefontaine won 42-35. Liz Martin led the Chiefs with 12 points and Ashley Artis had nine points.

Bellefontaine is back in action tonight at home against Botkins.
