Mechanicsburg’s boys basketball team handed host West Liberty-Salem its first Ohio Heritage Conference loss of the season Friday.
The host Indians raced to a 63-49 victory in a key OHC matchup.
The Indians are now 7-5 overall and 5-3 in the OHC, while the Tigers slip to 10-3 overall and 7-1 in the league.
WL-Salem handled M’burg 84-64 in their first meeting this season.
Mechanicsburg came away with a 13-8 lead after the opening quarter. The Indians began to pull away in the second quarter with a 22-10 run. That gave them a 35-18 halftime advantage.
The Tigers were unable to mount a rally in the second half.
Landon Hormann paced the Tigers with 15 points, Travis Mayse had 12 points and Max Bailey added eight points.
Brandon Purk powered M’burg with a game-high 21 points.
In junior varsity action, WL-Salem won 45-31. Michael McIntosh led the Tigers with 11 points and Ross Kelley had 10 points.
WL-Salem hosts Urbana on Tuesday in a non-league matchup.
