Northwestern fends off Riverside for 67-43 victory

Northwestern’s girls basketball team used a strong first-half effort to put away visiting Riverside early Monday for a 67-43 non-league victory.

The Warriors are now 4-9 on the season and the Pirates drop to 2-11.

Northwestern led 17-7 after the opening quarter and outscored Riverside 18-8 in the second quarter to lead 35-15 at halftime.

Brooke Hickey led the Pirates with 14 points and seven rebounds.

In junior varsity action, Northwestern rolled to a 50-15 win over Riverside. Aubrey Stephens scored eight points to lead the Pirates.

Riverside travels to Marion Catholic on Thursday for a Northwest Central Conference contest.
