Although the schools are separated by less than 10 miles, West Liberty-Salem and Bellefontaine have rarely met in boys basketball.
When the Chiefs and Tigers began a four-game series in 2006, they had not played each other since 1933.
Bellefontaine won all four of the recent matchups. After a two-year break, the series resumes Saturday night at WL-Salem.
“The single reason why we wanted to play this game is our kids know how good Bellefontaine’s program is and a lot of our kids know their kids,” said WL-Salem head coach Aaron Hollar. “It is a great opportunity to see how we match up against one of the better teams in our area.”
