Hitting the mat: Holiday tournaments not short on big matches

The holiday time brings one of the biggest weekends in wrestling. It features some of the biggest tournaments and the most revealing results.

As I like to say, it’s time to separate the contenders from the pretenders.

Big national meets like Beast of the East and King of the Mountain occurred in the past week, but the bulk of the holiday tournaments are this weekend.

That long list includes the three big Ohio holiday tournaments: the Greater Miami Valley Wrestling Association tournament, the Medina Invitational and the Brecksville Invitational.

Other major national prep meets include the Powerade tournament in Pennsylvania and The Clash XI National High School Wrestling Duals in Minnesota, which features 11 nationally ranked teams.
