Riverside girls break through for first win of the season

Riverside’s girls basketball team tasted victory for the first time Thursday after handling visiting Springfield Catholic Central 38-19 in a non-league contest.

The Pirates are now 1-8 on the season.

Riverside dominated from the start. The Pirates led 10-4 after one quarter and 16-5 at halftime.

 

The Pirates then outscored the Irish 22-14 in the second half.

 

Brooke Hickey powered the Pirates with a game-high 17 points. Elizabeth McGowen had five points and eight rebounds and Monica Hurley had two points, three assists and six steals.

Riverside rallied to force overtime in the junior varsity game, but fell to SCC 29-28. Aubrey Stephens led the Pirates with 10 points and Abby Proffitt had eight points.

Riverside is back in action next Friday at the Bradford Holiday Tournament.
