Short-handed Gophers can’t stay with Eagles

Ridgemont’s girls basketball team suffered a rough night Thursday at Troy Christian.

Injuries and foul issues left the Gophers with just three players on the court in the final seven minutes of a 73-21 non-league loss.

Ridgemont is now 0-7 on the season.

“This was a difficult night for our girls,” said Ridgemont coach Jeff Merklin. “Out of the nine available players we have in our program, three were very ill, including one with pneumonia, and one suffered a concussion in our game the night before against Wellington, so we only had five healthy players.

“Then during the game, we had one girl foul out in the third quarter, and then shortly thereafter another of our girls suffered an injury and had to be taken to the hospital. We finished the last seven minutes of the second half with just three players.”
