Springfield Shawnee edged host West Liberty-Salem for a 53-50 win Monday in non-league girls basketball action.
The win bumps the Braves to 2-7 on the season, while the Tigers slip to 3-5.
WL-Salem got off to a slow start as Shawnee led 16-8 after the first quarter.
The Tigers clawed their way back in the second quarter and outscored the Braves 17-12, but still trailed 28-25 at the break.
Springfield Shawnee pulled away in the third quarter with a 17-9 run. That gave the Braves a 45-34 advantage.
The Tigers charged back in the fourth quarter, outscoring Shawnee 16-8. However, the Braves were able to hold on down the stretch.
Melany Ward sparked the Tigers on offense with a game-high 19 points, while Maria Daulton tallied 12 points and six rebounds.
The Tigers won the junior varsity game 34-33, with Ashley Holleron and Mia Walters each scoring eight points.
