Chieftain girls finish fourth out of 21 teams
The Bellefontaine High School swim team opened its season in impressive fashion over the weekend at the Trotwood-Greenon Fall Invitational.
The Chieftain boys finished first out of 18 teams, while the girls took fourth out of 21 squads.
“I could not be more proud of the team for their effort and positive attitudes,” said Bellefontaine head coach Sharon Gase. “On top of the many placers, each swimmer on the team accomplished a personal-best time in at least one event.”
Josh Haisley powered the BHS boys with second-place finishes in the 100 individual medley (1:03.12) and the 50 butterfly (26.25).
Bellefontaine received first-place relay finishes from the 200 freestyle relay team of Andy Ames, Isaiah Brady, Evan Snapp and Haisley (1:39.90) and the 200 medley relay team of Haisley, Evan Snapp, Isaiah Brady and Andy Ames (1:53.61).
Also for the Chieftain boys, Brady finished fourth in the 100 individual medley (1:05.51) and fourth in the 50 butterfly (26.49), Snapp was fifth in the 50 breaststroke (33.51) and eighth in the 100 individual medley (1:06.49), Ames finished third in the 50 backstroke and eighth in the 50 freestyle (26.10), Matt Anderson placed 10th in the 50 freestyle (26.37), Cayden DeMent took ninth in the 50 breaststroke (35.34), Adam Verbsky was 16th in the 50 breaststroke (37.30) and the 200 medley B relay team of Anderson, DeMent, Josh Robbins and Verbsky placed ninth (2:05.97).
On the girls side, Jessica Miller led the Chiefs by placing first in the 50 freestyle (26.84) and fifth in the 50 breaststroke.
The 200 freestyle relay team of Emma Smith, Katie Vetorino, Shelby Phillips and Miller placed third (1:57.81) and the 200 medley relay team of Smith, Miller, Vetorino and Phillips placed fifth (2:15.27).
Also for the BHS girls, Smith took sixth in the 50 breaststroke and 14th in the 100 individual medley (1:15.83), Phillips was fourth in the 100 freestyle (1:04.97) and 15th in the 100 individual medley (1:17.10) and Vetorino took 16th in the 50 butterfly (36.48).
For Benjamin Logan’s girls, Sarah Mally was fifth in the 50 butterfly and eighth in the 100 individual medley (1:11.79) and Camille Watson was 11th in the 50 freestyle (30.50) and 14th in the 50 backstroke.
Bellefontaine is back in action Tuesday at home against Botkins and Minster.
