WL-Salem honors its fall athletes

West Liberty-Salem’s athletic department recently honored its fall athletes during various awards banquets.

In girls cross country, most improved went to Alyssa Strickland, varsity hustle went to Savanna Shipp and Madison Woodruff, Meghan Vogel received the scholar-athlete award and the most valuable runner award. Receiving four-year letter awards were Shawnda Henault, Shipp, Jasmine Smith, Jordan Smith, Sarah Williams and Vogel.

In girls soccer, Addy Hartsel received the scholar-athlete award. Offensive MVP went to Melany Ward, defensive MVP went to Alandra Cox, most improved went to Erin Barrett, Lindsay Hostetler received the varsity hustle and Mindy Bailey received the junior varsity hustle award. Receiving four-year letter awards were Barrett, Shonda Gieseke, Hartsel and Hostetler.

In cheerleading, Karli Daniels received the most improved award, most valuable went to Carly Lowry, the captain’s award went to Taylor Ward, the varsity hustle honor went to Hayden Erwin. Taylor Ward received a four-year letter award.

In boys cross country, most valuable runner awards went to Alex Adams and Aaron Scott. The most improved award went to Alex Steiner, Chris Davis and Joey Adams received the varsity hustle award, while the scholar-athlete award went to Aaron Scott. Adams and Scott both received four-year letter awards.

In boys soccer, Corey Lianez received the varsity hustle award and Gage Rudasill received the junior varsity hustle award. The scholar-athlete award went to Tyler Levan, most valuable offensive player went to Grant Burden, the most valuable defensive player went to Lianez and most improved went to Byler Williamson. Grant Burden was awarded a four-year letter award.

In football, Riley Sims received the offensive MVP and the scholar-athlete award. Defensive MVP was shared by Landon Hormann and Devin McGuire. The special teams MVP went to Ross Hickenbottom, the varsity hustle award went to Logan Stapleton and the junior varsity hustle award went to Dusty Moell. Travis Mayse was awarded a four-year letter award.

In volleyball, Megan Etgen received the scholar-athlete award and varsity hustle award, Jamie Peterson received the MVP, the most digs award went to Courtney Milliron, the most assists award went to Autumn Klinger and the junior varsity award hustle award went to Kylie Gilroy. Klinger also received a four-year letter award.

In golf, the most improved award went to Ethan McBean. The awards for lowest scoring average and lowest putting average went to Nick Sims. The scholar-athlete honor went to Matt Kauffman. Jake Rutan received the Dedication to Improvement Award.
