Bellefontaine looks to get on track after loss to Celina
In a matchup of two teams many expect to be in the thick of the Central Buckeye Conference Kenton Trail division boys basketball title race, Friday’s league opener between Springfield Shawnee and host Bellefontaine has all the makings of being a classic tussle.
Shawnee won the Kenton Trail crown last year with an 8-2 record, while the Chiefs tied Tecumseh for second place with a 7-3 conference mark.
With both teams bringing back key players from last season, Bellefontaine and Shawnee figure to be fighting it out again at the top of the division.
“Shawnee is one of the teams favored in our league after winning it last year,” said BHS head coach Henry Stolly. “It makes Friday’s game all that more important.
“You only get 10 league games, so all of them are big. We found that out last year. We lost some close games early on and that hurt us later in the season.”
