The Raiders rolled to a big halftime lead and then fought off a Tippecanoe threat in the second half to grab a 57-47 win in a CBC crossover contest.
Ben Logan is now 1-3, while Tippecanoe falls to 2-2.
In last year’s meeting, Tippecanoe beat the Raiders by 36 points.
“This should definitely be a boost of confidence for the girls,” said Ben Logan head coach Donnie Sosby. “I know since I’ve been here we’ve never beaten Tipp. I thought our girls took a big step tonight.”
The first quarter has given the Raiders problems in the early going this season, but they came out playing crisp basketball from the opening tip Wednesday.
Ben Logan led 17-8 after the first eight minutes and held a 34-20 lead at halftime.
“We have had trouble at the start of games, but the girls came out and played well,” said Sosby. “We had a little bit of a lull in the second half, but for the most part this was the most complete game I’ve seen from the girls.”
Senior guard Jessica Yoder scored a game-high 24 points to spark the Raiders. Ciarra Wirick had 14 points and Carli Henman added eight points.
“All of the girls did a good job tonight,” said Sosby. “Every girl that stepped onto the court did something positive.”
Ben Logan maintained a comfortable cushion after three quarters with a 40-31 lead.
Tippecanoe made a run in the final period, using a 6-2 burst to close to within five points (42-37) with 3:31 remaining.
However, the Raiders staved off the threat by hitting four straight free throws.
Ben Logan was 13-of-14 at the foul line over the final 3:15 of the game.
“I was really proud of the way the girls handled themselves when Tipp got it to five,” said Sosby. “Our seniors showed some good leadership.”
Marissa Wilbur contributed 10 rebounds and Wirick had four steals and three assists for the Raiders.
Carly Clodfelter led the Red Devils with 20 points.
In Wednesday’s junior varsity game, Tippecanoe won 28-22. Natalie Drumm led the Raiders with eight points.
Ben Logan returns to action Saturday at home against Graham. The reserve game starts at 2 p.m., with the varsity contest to follow at approximately 3:30 p.m.
