With a knack for finding the football, Indian Lake junior linebacker L.J. Henderson piled up some impressive defensive stats this season.
He has received several honors for his play, and picked up another big one Tuesday night.
Henderson was named to the Associated Press Division III special mention all-Ohio list.
“We are extremely happy for L.J.,” said Indian Lake head coach Dave Coburn. “Any kind of individual award our kids get we also look at as a team award. It takes a team effort for these kids to receive individual accolades. L.J. had an awesome year. He earned everything he is receiving.”
From his linebacker position, Henderson recorded 111 tackles, 2.5 sacks, an interception and two forced fumbles.
He also recovered a fumble for the Lakers.
A standout fullback as well on offense, Henderson rushed for 657 yards and eight touchdowns.
“The biggest thing he brings to the table is his work ethic,” said Coburn. “His ability to find the football and get to the football is his strongest asset. He is very instinctive on the field and does a nice job of making plays on the defensive side of the ball.”
Indian Lake went 6-4 this fall and a strong defensive effort during the second half of the season was led by Henderson.
“Both the players and coaches rely heavily on L.J. and his contributions on defense,” said Coburn. “He is sort of the quarterback of our defense. He has really done a nice job in that role this year. He is a guy who leads by example.”
