basketball

Host Lehman Catholic outscored Riverside 20-9 in the fourth quarter to grab a 44-32 win Friday on the opening night of the girls basketball season.

It was a tight game through the first three periods.

Lehman led 11-9 after one quarter and 19-17 at halftime.

The Cavaliers held just a one-point cushion (24-23) after three quarters.

But the home team controlled the final period to pull away for the victory.

Riverside shot just 10-of-44 (23 percent) from the field and committed 26 turnovers.

Lehman hit 44 percent of its shots, but turned the ball over 24 times to allow the Pirates to stay in the game.

Riverside did not have a scorer reach double figures. Mara Ledley, Brooke Hickey and Monica Hurley each scored seven points and Morgan Robison added four points.

Elizabeth McGowen contributed 11 rebounds for the Pirates.

There was no junior varsity game.
