Jordan leads Tigers at state meet

West Liberty-Salem’s boys and girls junior high cross country teams recently competed in the junior high state championships.

Standout Justin Jordan led the way with a fifth-place finish in Division III in a time of 10:53.8.

As a team, the Tiger girls finished seventh out of 16 teams in Division III and the Tiger boys finished eighth out of 13 teams.

Other boys competing for WL-Salem were Charlie Williams in 36th, Bryan Woods in 63rd, Bishop Williamson in 84th, Zavier Esch in 99th, Cameron Cozad in 101st and Andrew Landis in 105th.

For the WL-Salem girls, Jenna Magnuson was 46th, Reghan Bieleski was 61st, Sarah Godwin was 68th, Ashley Black was 69th, Laine Godwin was 71st, Katie Hartsel was 74th, Sophia Farquharson was 112th, Taylor Henault was 115th and Anna Edwards was 126th.


Calvary gets tourney win

Calvary Christian’s junior high volleyball team picked up a tournament win over the Marion Hawks 30-28, 25-18.

Katie Thompson led the Spartans with 11 points.

In the  second game, Calvary Christian fell to Grand Lake St. Marys 25-11, 25-8.

Sydnee Durnell led the Spartans with four points.


Calvary Christian wins championship

Calvary Christian’s junior high soccer team recently beat West Liberty 4-1 in the junior high league soccer championship game.

Parker Grothaus scored all four goals to power the Spartans, while Maddie McGillis had an assist.

Defensively, Josiah Kratz turned in a strong effort in goal for Calvary.
