Bellefontaine’s girls tennis team was unable to advance any of its members to the district tournament during Division II sectional action Tuesday at the Dayton Center Court Racket Club.
Bellefontaine did get a win from Hannah Weimer in singles play. She defeated Northridge’s Overman 6-2, 6-2 before falling to Brookville’s Ceras 6-0, 6-0.
“Hannah did a nice job,” said Bellefontaine head coach Jim Stein. “She had to play the number one player from Brookville. Hannah did not play bad. The Brookville girl was just a tough opponent.”
In other singles matches, Bellefontaine’s Kiersten Daum lost to Northeastern’s Stites 6-4, 7-5 and the Chiefs’ Kenzie Collinsworth was defeated by Northeastern’s Whitley 6-1, 6-3.
“I thought Kiersten showed good improvement,” said Stein. “She played that same girl about a week ago and lost 6-1, 6-2. It was nice to see Kiersten make her sweat it out this time.”
Bellefontaine’s two doubles teams also were knocked out in the first round.
Madeline Houser and Michelle Frantz were defeated by the Kenton Ridge duo of Wallace and Costiaux 6-2, 6-0, while Milton-Union’s Fetters and Smith defeated Kylee Jenkins and Ashley Enderle 6-0, 6-0.
Bellefontaine has two regular-season matches remaining. The Chiefs host Springfield Shawnee today at 4:30 p.m. and will finish their season Thursday with a home match at 3 p.m. against Greenon.
