Calvary Christian picks up win in local soccer action

WL-Salem girls top Mechanicsburg

Calvary Christian’s soccer team defeated West Liberty-Salem’s boys junior varsity team 5-0 on Tuesday.

The Spartans are now 5-2-1 on the season.

Scoring for Calvary Christian were Maria Salmonowicz, Ben Tanner, Nate Spyker, Peter Printz, Kyle Pond and Daniel Salmonowicz.

Calvary Christian hosts Delaware Christian on Saturday.


WL-Salem girls drop M’burg

West Liberty-Salem’s girls soccer team defeated host Mechanicsburg 6-1 on Tuesday in an Ohio Heritage Conference matchup.

The Tigers improve to 5-3-3 overall and 5-2-1 in the OHC.

Abigail Rabenstein led the way for WL-Salem with two goals, while Melany Ward, Shonda Gieseke, Morgan Freyhof and Lindsay Hostetler each had one goal.

Ashleigh Gieseke added two assists and Addy Hartsel had one.

Defensively, April Kelley and Lauren Godwin each recorded one save.

WL-Salem hosts Northeastern on Thursday, Oct. 4, in another OHC matchup.
